Gerhard Richter, BMW M Division’s Vive President gave a very interesting interview to Inside Line's Alistair Weaver during the launch of the 2009 BMW M3. Among other things, Richter confirmed BMW’s intention to build a successor to the highly acclaimed, lightweight M3 CSL. “The last M3 CSL was very successful and fun to drive. From now on, there will always be a CSL version of the M3”, said Richter.
As for the M1, Richter found the idea of an M model based on the 1-Series Coupe to be a good idea but he noted that BMW hasn’t taken any decision on the matter yet. On the other hand, Richter was quite negative about a future BMW supercar, not that he personally wouldn’t love doing it, but because if BMW decided to go fourth they would have to build something like the Porsche Carrera GT since anything below would just be on the same level with the M3 or M6. -Click on the link below to see the whole interview
