Porsche has started production of its first ever diesel-engined model, the new Cayenne Diesel, at its Leipzig plant in Germany. The sports utility vehicle that is equipped with Audi's 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine with 240 HP and 550 Nm of torque, will be available for sale from February 2009 onwards. According to the German maker, the Cayenne Diesel consumes an average of 9.3 liters per 100 kilometers (25.3 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 244 grams per kilometer.
Equipped with Porsche's Tiptronic S automatic transmission as standard, the basic European price for the Cayenne Diesel will be about € 47,250. In Germany, the latest addition in the Cayenne family will cost €56,436.
